Project Title: A Digital Twin Intelligent Platform for Aged Building Digitalization and Fire Safety Management
Hosting Institution: The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU)
Abstract: This project aims to address the challenges associated with aged buildings in Hong Kong, including fire safety risks, inefficient energy use, and the lack of digitalization for renovation planning. By developing a Digital Twin Intelligent Platform, the project focuses on enhancing building digitalization, improving fire safety, and promoting smart and sustainable renovation solutions.
The proposed solution leverages advanced technologies like Scan-to-BIM workflows to efficiently digitalize buildings through large-scale point cloud data processing. A BIM-based subsystem will be developed for quantitative fire risk assessment, including fuel load analysis and fire simulation. Another subsystem will focus on smart and sustainable interior fire safety renovation, providing generative fire safety retrofitting recommendations, predictive maintenance, and green retrofitting strategies. The project will validate its methods through two trials in actual aged buildings.
The research will contribute to reducing fire risks, improving building sustainability, and extending the life cycle of aged buildings. These innovations will benefit both building owners and the community by enhancing safety, reducing energy consumption, and optimizing the operational efficiency of Hong Kong's aging building stock.
