The proposed project aims to address critical challenges in Hong Kong's trade and logistics sectors by developing advanced proactive perception and analytics technologies. These technologies will provide timely, and actionable insights to support the operations of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). By leveraging timely data analytics, AI-driven tools, and multi-source data integration, the project seeks to bridge the gap caused by delayed official statistics, enabling faster and more informed decision-making.
Hong Kong's trade and logistics sectors face significant challenges, including delayed data publication, which hampers SMEs' ability to adapt to dynamic trading environments, such as sudden trading environment changes or shifts in regional demand. Additionally, there are currently no commercial solutions in the market that provide timely trade and logistics data tailored to the needs of Hong Kong SMEs. This project will develop a unified data platform that integrates multi-source inputs, including government reports, news, and logistics movement data, with low latency. Advanced analytics methods, such as temporal-relational modeling and influence-aware knowledge graphs, will be employed to analyze trade metrics.
The project will deliver value-added services, including an AI chatbot; a data visualization dashboard for intuitive insights; risk alerts for proactive notifications; and scenario simulation tools for strategic planning. Focus areas include port cargo throughput (seaborne and river cargo) and textile trade dynamics between key regions. Expected benefits include timely decision-making, cost efficiency, risk mitigation, and enhanced competitiveness for SMEs.
Aligned with the national "14th Five-Year Plan," which positions Hong Kong as a key hub for international trade and logistics, this project will strengthen Hong Kong's role as an international shipping center and support the development of high-value-added maritime services. A 24-month timeline will cover user requirements analysis, technology development, system integration, and pilot trials with SMEs. The project will also explore commercialization opportunities by extending services to other merchandise categories.
By empowering Hong Kong's trade and logistics sectors with timely insights, this project will foster resilience, efficiency, and competitiveness in a rapidly evolving global market.
