RFID System for Management of Affected People During Major Incidents

Designed and developed by LSCM for the Airport Security Unit of the Hong Kong Police Force, the RFID System for Management of Affected People During Major Incidents (MIAPMS) helps the police operation team to manage the flow of people effectively during a major aircraft incident and to keep track of the real-time statistics of injuries and casualties efficiently. This system provides crucial information for the commanding officer to deploy the operation teams in the disaster zone, and greatly reduces the time to disseminate information to the media and to the families of the passengers involved.

The system involves the use of badges with embedded RFID tags which are assigned to each of the passengers or flight crew. When the operation team officers scan the badges on the injured passengers or flight crew with an RFID reader, the  information such as  their gender and their level of injury etc. will be recorded. The statistical information at each of the locations (Casualty Gathering Point, Triage Area, Crew Centre, Passenger Reception Centre, Ambulance Loading Point, Hospital, or Temporary Mortuary) will then be recorded by the system and reflected on the dashboard immediately.

The trial system will be used for the emergency rescue drill of the Hong Kong International Airport.
