Project Title: Product Authentication at Retail Points - Infrastructure and Systems
Hosting Institution: LSCM R&D Centre (LSCM)
Abstract: A technology of product authentication is to be developed to enable secured product authenticity check as the key mechanism to ensure product integrity in the supply chain from the point of certified manufacturing to the point of retail. The project meets the R&D objectives as: First of all, the project breaks through the pitfall of conventional anti-counterfeit methods. It achieves reliable and trusted authentication by the innovation of new technique of authentication protocol and algorithm with the leverage on the advanced technologies of RFID and PKI. The new method overcomes the challenge of authenticating a product label which is read by a third-party operated reader and the data transmitted in the open Internet. The method needs to protect the label against counterfeit copying in the due course. Secondly, the implementation is targeted for simple operations, easy to use for ready adoption in the consumer market. Thirdly, the technology design and its use is steered for viable business model among the stakeholders in order to facilitate a low barrier for adoption as industry practice. Lastly, the project also conducts pilot trials with participants from the industry to attune the technology with the real-world requirements, viable operation and business models in actual practice.
