LSCM Logistics Summit 2023

The annual LSCM Logistics Summit was successfully held on 11 October this year, attracting more than a thousand of representatives from the government, industry, and academia to exchange their views and insights towards the latest technology development and industry updates.

The theme of this year’s Summit was “The Role of Smart Logistics in Facilitating the Greater Bay Area Development”. At the Summit, renowned speakers from the government, industry and academia discussed how the recent technology advancement has facilitated the development of Smart Logistics in Hong Kong and its significance to the development of the Greater Bay Area. A special highlight at the Summit was the panel discussion on “Authors x AI Real Voice Audiobook”. In this session, Mr LAM Chiu Ying, SBS, Chartered Meteorologist, Mr TAM Yiu Chung, GBM, GBS, JP, Vice Chairman, Chinese Association of Hong Kong & Macao Studies, and renowned artiste Dr WANG Ming Chun, Elizabeth, GBS, SBS, shared their memorable experiences of participating in the LSCM’s Smart e-Book Research Project featuring their AI synthesised voices.

Apart from the speakers’ presentation and the panel discussion, LSCM showcased the Centre’s  robotics technologies, logistics technologies, as well as smart city technologies at the exhibition. They included the e-Smart Port Platform which facilitates information sharing,  tracking and visualisation of the global supply chain and port logistics; the Electronic Power Assist Trolley System which enables the user to move heavy items easily, the Automated Concrete Cube Testing System which enhances the efficiency and accuracy of concrete cube testing by automatically carrying out the concrete cube testing procedures. The technologies developed to enhance mobility were also showcased at the Summit, including the RFID Device (Two-piece Device for Tolling Application) which is able to differentiate different drivers driving the same commercial vehicles, the Smart Area-Wide Traffic Control System for Better Mobility, as well as the Intelligent Traffic Enforcement System which help to reduce traffic congestion and enhance road safety. Besides, LSCM’s partner organisations and universities also showcased their in-house technologies and those developed in collaboration with LSCM.

Mr LEUNG Chun-ying, GBM, GBS, JP, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, stressed the importance of innovation and technology in Hong Kong’s development in the Opening Remarks.

LSCM Maritime Summit 2023

In this year’s Asian Logistics, Maritime and Aviation Conference (ALMAC) organised by Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), LSCM again partnered with HKTDC to organise the LSCM Maritime Summit 2023 on 21 November. With the theme of " Charting the Course: The Power of Digitalisation for Hong Kong to Build a Smarter Shipping Hub", the speakers’ presentations and discussion centered around the development of Smart Port and logistics technology.

At the Summit, LSCM signed a MoU with COSCO Shipping and The Chamber of Hong Kong Logistics Industry (CHKLI) to strengthen the collaboration among the three organisations in the development of Smart Port.

LSCM also showcased a series of logistics technologies developed by the Centre at the ALMAC, encouraging the industry to adopt innovative technologies to enhance efficiency and productivity. The showcased technologies included the award-winning Electronic Power Assist Trolley System, Cold Chain Robot, Tele-Control Warehouse Stackers Using 5G, as well as the e-Smart Port Platform.

Mr Simon Wong, MH, FCILT, Chief Executive Officer, LSCM, emphasised the importance of digitalisation in enhancing the efficiency and competitiveness of the logistics industry in his Welcome Remarks at the Summit. LSCM signed a MoU with COSCO Shipping and CHKLI to strengthen the collaboration with the industry in the development of smart port.
Mr Paul CHAN, GBM, GBS, MH, JP, Financial Secretary, the Government of the HKSAR, visited LSCM’s booth and experienced the award-winning  Electronic Power Assist Trolley System. Dr Frank TONG, Director/Chief Scientist, Research & Technology Development (System), LSCM, introduced the e-Smart Port Platform at the Summit.
