Deliverbot

In view of the industry’s need to enhance efficiency and productivity in the daily operation, LSCM uses artificial intelligence and modern robotic technologies to develop a mobile service robot that can help to deliver goods and items to the desired destinations effectively and efficiently.

Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is used to locate the position of the numbered gates and other alphanumeric landmarks accurately. When the landmarks are out-of-sight, robotic mapping and localisation are processed via advanced 2-D LIDAR Simultaneous Localisation and Mapping (SLAM) techniques. This helps to overcome the problem of the high computational cost of many navigation solutions.

An optimised D* algorithm has been developed to ensure that the robot can move smoothly in the planned paths towards the destinations and avoid obstacles. In the crowded environments where the movements of people greatly influence the movement of the robot, the path planning process will utilise a machine learning based people-selection algorithm to make the best decision for path selection.

While the robot is fully autonomous, human operators can monitor various statuses of the robot in real time by a user-friendly mobile app. If necessary, the operator can use the mobile app to take control of the robot. This provides a higher level of flexibility in its application.
