HKIA Technovation Conference-cum-Exhibition 2015

 

HKIA Technovation Conference-cum-Exhibition 2015 was put together by the Airport Authority Hong Kong with the theme of “Indoor and Outdoor Tracking Technologies for Airport”. The Centre had taken this great opportunity to promote technologies of LBS/RTLS under airport environment. For example, the RFID-enabled tracking and sensoring technologies, which included the Integrated GPS/Beidou/Ground based Augmentation Position Technologies, Indoor Positioning Infrastructure based on GPS Technologies, Indoor Location Analytics System for Exhibition and Convention Industries, RFID-Enabling Sensing and Locationing Technologies for Real-time Environmental Monitoring, and Video-based Recognition and Analytics for Resources Management and Indoor Localization, Tracking and Navigation.

Dr Frank Tong, Director, Research & Technology Development, LSCM R&D Centre, delivered a presentation in relation to applied technologies of LBS & RTLS in the Hong Kong Airport Environment.
 
InnoTech Month Roadshow and InnoCarnival 2015

 

The Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) had launched the InnoTech Month 2015 with its first event, the Roadshow took place from 23-25 October at CityPlaza. Riding on the Roadshow, the Centre introduced the “Smart RFID Guide Cane” which the technology was designed to make life easier for the visually impaired. When the smart cane detects the RFID tags embedded on the ground, voice instruction will be provided through a navigation app installed in the user’s smartphone.

The Centre had also participated in the InnoCarnival 2015 which was held from 31 October - 8 November at the Hong Kong Science Park. The Centre’s latest robotic technology developed for warehouse management was promoted through interactive games and live demonstration. In particular, the “Automatic Guided Vehicle” demonstrated the capabilities in automatic inventory tracking and real-time notifications.

The “Smart RFID Guide Cane” technology attracted many media’s keen interest to feature.

The interactive games were very popular among the youngsters.
 
Asian Logistics and Maritime Conference (ALMC) 2015

 

The Centre took part in Asian Logistics and Maritime Conference (ALMC) 2015 from 17-18 November and showcased the RFID Airport Trolley to the conference attendees. The RFID reader underneath the trolley will scan the RFID tags embedded on the Airport’s floor and then provide audible assistance to travellers who might encounter some difficulties when searching for directions in the high traffic airport environment.

China Hi-Tech Fair 2015

 

The Centre joined the China Hi-Tech Fair 2015 on 16-21 November at Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Center. The Fair was one of the largest and the most influential scientific and technological fairs in China which attracted 3,000 exhibitors from more than 50 countries and over 500,000 visitors to attend. The Centre showcased the visitors its research deliverables including the E-Lock Enabling Technology for Container Cargo Transhipment Process and Real-time Environmental Monitoring System during the event.
