Concerted efforts to combat COVID-19

As the Hong Kong SAR Government extended the use of the StayHomeSafe System to help contain the spread of COVID-19 in Hong Kong, the demand for the systems has been increasing rapidly since early February. Despite our relentless efforts in developing the system, our existing manpower was not sufficient for us to meet the increasing demand for the system to monitor the people under home quarantine. Therefore, LSCM rallied over 100 volunteers through the Hong Kong Disciplined Services Volunteer Corps to offer the most needed help to us in March. The volunteer teams were comprised of both serving and retired staff from the Correctional Services Department (CSD), Customs and Excise Department (CED), Drainage Services Department (DSD), Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF), Hong Kong Government Flying Services (GFS), Immigration Department (Immigration), as well as Water Services Department (WSD). After receiving the training from LSCM teams, the volunteers were competent in performing the quality control and packaging tasks before the systems were sent to the boundary control points for distribution to the persons under quarantine.

LSCM appreciated very much all the volunteers from the government departments for their sincere support and their contribution in the fight against COVID-19. This really shows the concerted efforts of all in combating COVID-19.

The volunteers from various government departments supported LSCM in preparing the StayHomeSafe System in our laboratory.

The volunteers paid full attention to the briefing given by LSCM teams.

Delegation visit from Hong Kong Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA)

Some members of YWCA visited our office in Hong Kong Science Park on 17 January 2020. To let the guests know more about the latest Gerontechnologies and other technologies suitable for the community service sector, our teams had prepared different technology showcases for the visit, such as the Service Logging and Information Kiosk System, RFID-tagged Vest and Gate Door System, and EEG Remote Control Robot, etc., were demonstrated to the guests. During the visit, the guests were excited to learn about such technologies and it raised their interest in the initiatives.

Our representative was introducing the technology applied in the EEG Remote Control Robot to the guests.

The guests were interested in our latest technologies designed for the elderly service sector and community service sector.
