Mr. Jimmy TAM joined the Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department in 1988.

He holds a Bachelor degree in Computing & Information Systems, two diplomas in Computer Forensics discipline and two further in Business Administration (Marketing). He is also a founding member of the Information Security and Forensics Society (http://www.isfs.org.hk/).

During his 30 odd years’ service in Hong Kong Customs, Mr. TAM has been working in a wide spectrum of Customs work, including intellectual property rights protection, land boundary control, human resource management, development of information technology systems and trade facilitation programmes.

Mr. TAM has taken up the current appointment as Assistant Commissioner (Excise and Strategic Support) since 2015, taking charge of revenue protection and excise control, planning and development of major departmental projects, information technology development, trade single window development, supply chain security management as well as international Customs liaison and cooperation.

Recently, Mr. TAM has been steering the implementation of “Smart Customs Blueprint”.  Through introducing innovative technology (e.g. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and big data analytics) in various Customs service regimes, the Blueprint helps enhance Customs clearance, law enforcement, trade facilitation as well as foster economic development.
