The LSCM Logistics Summit 2016 is the Centre’s signature annual event and aims at promoting the development and application of technologies, linking user experience with business application and fostering collaboration between different sectors. In this coming event entitled “Logistics and Trade Opportunities in Belt and Road enabled by Innovation and Technologies”, various technologies promoted by LSCM including Internet-of-Things (IoT), Cloud computing, eCommerce, Smart City would be explored and discussed on their applications in the context of the Chinese Central Government’s Belt and Road initiative.

IoT enables physical and virtual objects uniquely identified and connected over the internet. These inter-connected devices enhance operational efficiency and create new business opportunities for various industries. The eCommerce sector is the key area for IoT applications, together with Cloud Computing and Big Data Analytics are all the cornerstones for building up of a Smart City.

All these developments and trends offer various opportunities to the Hong Kong industries. In particular, with the Belt and Road initiative, which covers a vast market of over 4.4 billion population and 60 countries, is one of the largest opportunities for Hong Kong in the future.

The two-day Summit aims at bringing together industry practitioners and representatives from related fields to explore prospect of industry development, form collaboration opportunity and build business network. The first day programme will feature a series of keynote presentations delivered by government officials, iconic industry leaders and professionals, such as Hon Frankie Yick, Legislative Councillor (Transport), Mr Andy Tung, Chief Executive Officer, Orient Overseas Container Line Limited and Mr Algernon Yau, Chief Executive Officer, Cathay Dragon, on how Hong Kong can make use of its strategic advantage and technological strengths to grasp the opportunities arising from the Belt and Road Initiative.

While the second day programme will feature on FinTech and eCommerce, with particular focus on Fintech development from the perspectives of financial regulators in Hong Kong.  Apart from the insightful sharing from Prof K C Chan, Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Ms Benedicte Nolens, Senior Director, Head of Risk and Strategy, Securities and Futures Commission will present “Fintech from the Perspective of a Securities Regulator” and Mr Li Shu-pui Executive Director (Financial Infrastructure), Hong Kong Monetary Authority will talk about “HKMA’s Perspective on Fintech Development”.
