Passive UHF RFID Tags and Readers

Description

With successful completion of the project titled “Enabling Technologies for Single-Chip Passive UHF RFID Tags and Readers” by the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, two sets of technology are made available for licensing.

With low-cost, single-chip RFID tags in the UHF range from 860 MHz to 960 MHz, its high operation frequency is more desirable compared to the HF range around 13.56 MHz used by existing solutions mainly because the potential of providing long-distance communication between the readers and the tags while minimizing the antenna size and cost.

One of the derived technologies is passive RFID tag which includes antennas, power management, ultra-low-energy digital design, non-volatile memory and packaging. These enabling technologies are integrated for a low-cost solution. Another is single-chip RFID reader which includes system architectures, building blocks, transceiver and baseband.
