The Project is going to pursue market intelligence related to logistics and supply chain management technologies in three dimensions:

  • Global / China Watch

This is to keep a close watch on new technology development, adoption, policy changes and establishment of technology standards in the world with emphasis on China and major countries in Asia such as Japan and Singapore.
  • Broad coverage of market intelligence in local context

This is to gather extensive market information from logistics and supply chain community in Hong Kong and PRD. It will target (a) industries to investigate the problems and needs in relation to logistics enabling technologies and their readiness to new technologies; (b) technology vendors to have knowledge on the solutions, the capability as well as the incapability in logistics enabling technologies; and (c) technology R&D parties to get an insight of prospective technology developments.
  • In-depth study on specific topics

During the process of gathering broad market intelligence, some prominent issues that worth a detailed study may reveal and that will give rise to topics for in-depth studies. For instance, hardware RFID Readers and Tags, SCM Service Network, Security and Privacy are examples for further studies. The Project is planning to conduct three in-depth studies but topics are to be determined in a later stage after the commencement of broad market intelligence study.

This diagram demonstrates the coverage of market intelligence:

    • Industry User Community

Industries in focus are the logistics and supply chain industry and major service users in manufacturing, trading and retail industry.
    • Technology Community

Technology community refers to three major groups of companies for the on-site visit, namely (i) technology providers, (ii) hardware producers and (iii) SI groups.
    • R&D Community

This refers to R&D organizations that include universities, public and private R&D groups in Hong Kong and PRD.
